Bibliotheca Herpetologica: A Journal of the History and Bibliography of Herpetology is a biannual peer-reviewed scientific journal covering the history of herpetology and its bibliography. It is published by the [International Society for the History and Bibliography of Herpetology].
Herpetology (from Greek ἑρπετόν herpetón, meaning "reptile" or "creeping animal") is a branch of zoology concerned with the study of amphibians (including frogs, salamanders, and caecilians (Gymnophiona)) and reptiles (including snakes, lizards, turtles, crocodilians, and tuataras).
Regular publications include the Journal of Herpetology and Herpetological Review. It is the largest international herpetological society, and is recognized worldwide for having the most diverse program of publications, meetings, and other activities.
Herpetological Monographs is a peer-reviewed scientific journal covering the zoology of amphibians and reptiles.It is published annually by the Herpetologists' League and was established in 1982.
The journal was established in 2006, with the first issue appearing in September. [1] In 2012 it was included in the Journal Citation Reports. [2] In September 2014, the journal became an incorporated nonprofit corporation.
Slowinski was a founder of the first online herpetological journal, Contemporary Herpetology, and served as its editor-in-chief. He was also the curator for the Department of Herpetology for the California Academy of Sciences. His primary area of research was venomous snakes, having written some 40 peer-reviewed articles and one book.
A graduate of the University of Cincinnati, Collins authored 27 books and over 300 articles on wildlife, of which about 250 were on amphibians and reptiles. [1] He was the founder of the Center for North American Herpetology (CNAH). [2] He died while studying amphibians and reptiles on St. George Island, Florida on 14 January 2012.
