Palakkad (Malayalam: [pɐːlɐkːɐːɖɨ̆] ⓘ) is one of the 14 districts in the Indian state of Kerala. It was carved out of the southeastern region of the former Malabar District on 1 January 1957. It is located at the central region of Kerala and is the second largest district in the state after Idukki.
Collectorate of Palakkad district is located in the city. Many other offices including District Court Complex and District Panchayat Office are also in the city. Palakkad taluk office is also in civil station, and administers an area of 713 km 2 with a population of 6,21,622, making it the district's most populous taluk.
