In 2018 it had about 2,000 students. [2] Circa 2003 Lauren Allan, who attended AFUSD schools, began working as an administrator in the district, and she later became its superintendent. In 2018 Allan resigned. [3] She was replaced by Ryan Schoenfeld, [2] previously employed by the Amherst Central School District. [4]
The first dedicated high school building in Amherst was constructed in the spring of 1891; classes started that fall. [3] The school switched from a three-year to four-year track in 1902. [ 3 ]
