Briar Hill is a former settlement founded in 1897 along a train station on the Detroit & Lima Northern Railroad. It was located halfway between Carleton and Flat Rock. [7] [8] Briar Hill can be seen within the township on a 1911 map of Monroe County. Carleton is a village in the west-central portion of the township.
