It is located along the north side of Interstate 580 at the intersection with Interstate 680, roughly 35 miles (56 km) east of downtown San Francisco, 23 miles (37 km) east of downtown Oakland, and 31 miles (50 km) north of downtown San Jose.

It was associated with two separate areas near Dublin, [2] the first at an elevation of 348 feet (106 m). James Witt Dougherty purchased the land in and around what is now Dublin, CA, in 1852.
