America is a monthly Catholic magazine published by the Jesuits of the United States and headquartered in midtown Manhattan. It contains news and opinion about Catholicism and how it relates to American politics and cultural life.
The magazine was instantly popular and sold out virtually overnight. In June 1947, the Soviet Union authorized an increase to 50,000 copies. [citation needed] By the late 1940s, the State Department began to feel that radio and the Voice of America would be more effective propaganda tools and publication of Amerika was suspended in 1952.
With 179 years in print so far, Scientific American says it’s the “oldest continuously published magazine” in the United States and has published pieces from more than 200 Nobel winners.
The American Review was a magazine of politics and literature established by the fascist publisher Seward Collins in 1933. There were 71 issues published, containing articles, editorials, notes, and reviews, before the journal ceased operations in October 1937. [1] [2]
