Margaret Rose Orbell CNZM (17 July 1935 – 31 July 2006) was a New Zealand author, editor and academic. She was an associate professor of Māori at the University of Canterbury from 1976 to 1994.
Bruce Richard Stewart (5 August 1936 – 28 June 2017) was a New Zealand fiction writer and dramatist of Ngāti Raukawa Te Arawa descent. Stewart's work often expresses the anger, the confused loyalties, and the spiritual aspirations of late-twentieth-century Māori.

Calman was born in Upper Hutt in the early 1970s, and grew up in Auckland, Rotorua and Taranaki. [1] [2] His mother came from a Pākehā farming family in Rotorua while his father's parentage included a Māori mother descended from Ngāti Toa, Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga, and Ngāi Tahu. [2]

She went back to study in the late 80s and graduated in 1987 with a B.A. in Māori Studies and Education from Auckland University. She stayed on to do a Masters in Education graduating in 1990. [3] Kaa Jenkins has a PHD from Auckland University awarded in 2000 titled Haere tahi tāua: an account of aitanga in Maori struggle for schooling. [5]
