San Pablo has a cool climate owing to its location. It is nestled in the foothills of three mountains: Mount Banahaw, Mount Makiling and the Sierra Madre Mountains within the Laguna Volcanic Field, also known as the San Pablo Volcanic Field- an area of over 200 geologic features, among which are the 7 crater lakes of which the city is famed for.
The city is also home to the see of the Roman Catholic Bishop of San Pablo, a diocese which oversees catholic churches in the province of Laguna. [5] As expressed in City Ordinance (CO) 2018–53 by the local government of San Pablo city, the San Pablo Heritage zone was established to preserve and enshrine the legacy and history of the city. [6]
The Laguna Volcanic Field, also known as the San Pablo Volcanic Field, is an active volcanic field in the Philippines, located between Laguna de Bay, Mount Banahaw volcano complex and Mount Malepunyo range. It is part of the larger Southwestern Luzon Volcanic Field (SWLVF). [2]
San Pablo itself is known for its seven crater lakes, the largest of which is Lake Sampaloc. Apart from Laguna de Bay and the Seven Lakes of San Pablo, there are also two reservoir lakes that can be found in Laguna, the Lake Caliraya and Lumot Lake. These two man-made lakes were formed by the creation of the Caliraya Dam and the Lumot Dam.
