On 15 April 2024, at approximately 7:15 pm local time, a knife attack took place at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, a suburb of Sydney, Australia.During a live-streamed sermon, the attacker walked up to the pulpit, first stabbing bishop Mari Emmanuel, resulting in permanent vision loss in Emmanuel's right eye, before stabbing a priest and injuring another churchgoer. Mar Mari Emmanuel (born Robert Shlimon; 19 July 1970) [1] is an Iraqi-born, Assyrian Australian [2] prelate. He is the bishop of Christ the Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, New South Wales. In 2011, Emmanuel was ordained a bishop in the Ancient Church of the East, but was excommunicated in 2014.

The Immanuel Missionary Church was affiliated with Immanuel Missionary College in Shoals, Indiana until its closure in 1986; it was also affiliated with Peoples Bible College in Colorado Springs until its closure in May 1994. [5] The choir of God's Bible School and College is noted to tour at Immanuel Missionary Church congregations. [6]
