Custom made knife made personally by Bob Kramer in his shop in Bellingham, Washington. It was auctioned off in July 2019. Bob Kramer (born 1958) is an American bladesmith, "widely considered the greatest American knifesmith working today". [2] Some consider his kitchen knives to be "the best in the world". [3]
Compared to conventional European knives such as J. A. Henckels or Wüsthof, GLOBAL knives are made from a significantly harder alloy of steel and use a thinner blade. In addition, the cutting edge of the blades are ground at a more shallow 15° angle, which produces a sharper knife that also hold its edge for longer and allows for more accurate work.
The 1904 Wüsthof catalogue shows, amongst other wares, 1125 different models of pocket knives on 48 pages. In the 1930s, knife production was switched to stainless steel. [11] Although Solingen was heavily destroyed towards the end of World War II, the WÜSTHOF plant remained mostly intact, and production was resumed soon after the war ended.
