Hugh William Hadley was born on 17 February 1901 at Moro, Oregon.He was appointed to the United States Naval Academy in 1918. Commissioned Ensign on 29 May 1922, he served on board many ships, including USS Pennsylvania and USS S-27, and various shore stations in the prewar years.
Opening to the east northeast, Hadley Harbor, on the east end of Naushon, is relatively deep and is well protected from storms. At the mouth of Hadley Harbor, Bull Island is open to picnickers. Other bays include Inner Harbor, Lackeys Bay, Monsod Bay, and Northwest Gutter. On Naushon, there are no paved roads.
Hadley was first settled in 1659 and was officially incorporated in 1661. The former Norwottuck was renamed for Hadleigh, Suffolk. [5] Its settlers were primarily a discontented group of families from the Puritan colonies of Hartford and Wethersfield, Connecticut, who petitioned to start a new colony up north after some controversy over doctrine in the local church.

As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,009, out of 1,971 residents in the entire town of Hadley. Before that, the community was part of the Lake Luzerne-Hadley census-designated place.
