National Highway 48 (NH 48) is a major National Highway of India that starts at Delhi and terminates at Chennai traversing through seven states of India. [1] It has a total length of 2807 km (1744 miles). [1] NH 48 passes through the states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. [1]
It cuts down Delhi–Jaipur distance by 40 km and travel time from 3–4 hours (270 km by Delhi–Mumbai Expressway) to 2 hours. It passes through Haryana (Kherki Daula, Farrukhnagar , Pataudi , Taoru , Rewari , north of Bawal , Jhajhar & Nangal Choudhary ) and Rajasthan ( Behror , Kotputli , Shahpura & Chandwaji). [ 26 ]
Rajputana State Railway opened the Delhi–Bandikui 1,000 mm (3 ft 3 + 3 ⁄ 8 in)-wide metre-gauge line in 1874, extended it to Ajmer in 1875 and to Ahmedabad in 1881. [2]The Delhi–Ajmer line was converted to 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in)-wide broad gauge in 1994.
To create connectivity between NH 11 and NH 48 (Delhi-Jaipur national highway), a new stretch of NH 11 has been constructed bypassing Rewari city and ending at NH 352 (Rohtak-Jhajjar-Rewari national highway) and now this is the terminus or starting point of NH 11. From there, NH 352 joins NH 48 after less than a km.
The present day NH 1 passes through Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat and Delhi. It runs for a distance of 456 km. The Delhi–Lahore Bus travels on NH 1 in India. NH 1 presently has 4 different spur routes designated as 1A, 1B, 1C and 1D.
