The Romania national team mainly plays its home games at the Arena Națională in Bucharest, the largest stadium in the country. It opened in 2011 and has a capacity of 55,600 seats. The stadium is a Category 4 venue and hosted the 2012 Europa League final and Euro 2020.

Romania qualified for the next World Cup in 1934 after beating Yugoslavia 2–1 in a repeat of their first international. At the finals, Romania played only one game in a new knock-out format, losing 2–1 to Czechoslovakia in Trieste, Italy, with Ștefan Dobay scoring their only goal of the tournament.
The football team from Hațeg was founded in 1956, with its current name, Retezatul, and the club's colors were white and red. Over time, the club had several names such as Victoria, Unirea and Abatorul (the 60s), Gloria and Autotransport (the 70s), Avântul (1977–1987), Haber Hațeg (1991–1992), and from 1996 returned to Retezatul.
The Romania national football team played its first match in 1922 and is one of only four national teams to have taken part in the first three World Cups, the other three being Brazil, France, and Belgium. Overall, they have played in seven World Cups, most recently in 1998.
Some sources show that 896 players played for the national team, that is because in 2007 after a recommendation from FIFA, the Romanian Football Federation decided to erase 33 matches that were played between 1959 and 1984 from the national team's records, those matches belong now to Romania's Olympic team records.
The Romanian national team began its activity on June 8, 1922, in a match in Belgrade, against Yugoslavia, winning 2–1. On May 20, 1923, the Association Football Commission of the FSSR was admitted to the Zurich Congress as a member of FIFA.
