Camel case is often used as a naming convention in computer programming. It is also sometimes used in online usernames such as JohnSmith, and to make multi-word domain names more legible, for example in promoting EasyWidgetCompany.com.
Some naming conventions limit whether letters may appear in uppercase or lowercase. Other conventions do not restrict letter case, but attach a well-defined interpretation based on letter case. Some naming conventions specify whether alphabetic, numeric, or alphanumeric characters may be used, and if so, in what sequence.

For example, the use of upper camel case data element names is a convention used in many standard but is not specified by the XML Schema specification. Camel case trademarks are common, and one should be used in a company article title when it is strongly dominant in the independent source material for that entity: EquaTerra, not Equaterra or Equa Terra. Do not impose camel case on a name that does not conventionally use it: Craigslist not CraigsList (much less Craig's List).

One study has found that readers can recognize snake case values more quickly than camel case.
