Text formatting in citations should follow, consistently within an article, an established citation style or system. Options include either of Wikipedia's own template-based Citation Style 1 and Citation Style 2, and any other well-recognized citation system. Parameters in the citation templates should be accurate.
Citation Style 1 (CS1) is a collection of reference citation templates that can be modified to create different styles for different referenced materials. Its purpose is to provide a set of default formats for references on Wikipedia. It includes a series of templates that in turn use Module:Citation/CS1.
Citations which are referenced multiple times may be collapsed. The text is expanded in the document where a "<References />" tag or a {} template appears. This citation style is sometimes termed "Shortened notes", and more information about it can be seen here, here and here. wikitext
