Ithaca (/ ˈ ɪ θ ə k ə /) is a city in and the county seat of Tompkins County, New York, United States.Situated on the southern shore of Cayuga Lake in the Finger Lakes region of New York, Ithaca is the largest community in the Ithaca metropolitan statistical area.

Following the murder of Shawn Greenwood by the Ithaca Police Department on Feb. 23 2010, [7] members of the Ithaca community have renamed DeWitt Park to Shawn Greenwood Park. The new name aims to remember Shawn Greenwood, an African-American man who grew up in Ithaca, [7] and end the recognition of Simeon De Witt, a former slave owner. [8]

The park is located at the south end of Cayuga Lake, one of the 11 Finger Lakes of New York. The park's namesake, Allan Hosie Treman (1899-1975) was a Cornell University law professor, Ithaca city counsel, and member of the Finger Lakes Park Commission. [4] He is the son of Robert H. Treman, who also has a state park named in his honor.
