The Pocono Record was founded as the Stroudsburg Daily Times [2] on April 2, 1894.. In 1946 the newspaper was purchased by James H. Ottaway Sr., becoming the third newspaper in what would become the Ottaway Community Newspapers chain, which was purchased by Dow Jones and Company in the 1980s.
Stroudsburg is part of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre media market. Since 1947, WPCO-840 AM has served the community. Co-owned WSBG-93.5 FM began in 1964. Television stations WBRE-28, WNEP-16, and WYOU-22 each have news bureaus in downtown Stroudsburg. The headquarters of the Pocono Record newspaper is also located in Stroudsburg.

Manus was being held on three alleged felony probation violations, according to the jail's booking record. Manus was found "in distress" on April 17, was transported to a hospital and died the next day, according to the Athens Banner-Herald.
