Yamcha (Japanese: ヤムチャ, Hepburn: Yamucha) is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball manga series created by Akira Toriyama.He is first introduced as a desert bandit and an antagonist of Son Goku in chapter #7 "Yamcha and Pu'ar", published in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine on September 11, 1984, [1] alongside his constant companion Pu'ar.
Goku later names his first son Gohan in his grandfather's honor. In the anime, he later appears as an assistant to Annin (アンニン), the ruler of the "magical furnace". He is voiced by Osamu Saka in the Japanese version of the original series, Kinpei Azusa in Bardock: The Father of Goku, and Shigeru Chiba in Dragon Ball Kai.
Son Goku, a monkey-tailed boy, and Bulma, a teenage girl, travel to find the seven Dragon Balls, which summon the dragon Shenlong to grant the user one wish. Their journey leads to the desert bandit Yamcha, who later becomes an ally; Chi-Chi, whom Goku unknowingly agrees to marry; and Pilaf, an impish man who seeks the Dragon Balls to fulfill his desire to rule the world.
Yamcha tries to hit Shen, but somehow he avoids every attack, and then hits his head on his pelvis area. Then Yamcha uses Sokidan and knocks Kami off his legs. Then Kami(Shen) compliments his on being able to control his energy that well. Fight continues but Kami is more expirienced and stronger than any fighter and eventualy wins.

Goku's (saiyan) potential might be higher than Ten's (human i guess). Most characters that fall behind are humans, as you mentioned "yamcha, krillin, yajirobe". All characters that grow stronger are aliens, who might have a further "power level" potential than them, say Piccolo, Vegeta, Goku, and their offsprings.
