Douglas Morley Kirkland (August 16, 1934 – October 2, 2022) [1] [2] was a Canadian-born American photographer. He was noted for his photographs of celebrities, especially the ones he took of Marilyn Monroe several months before her death.
Kirkland was born and raised on a coconut plantation in Jamaica, the second child of Scot William Dixon and Brit Emma Elworthy. [2] His parents separated in 1905 and he moved to New York with his mother and sister in August 1905. Kirkland worked at a variety of jobs in New York and New Jersey.
