Corrections Services (referred to as the Department of Corrections) is responsible for the custody of adult inmates across Louisiana. As of 2011, about 19,000 of Louisiana's 37,000 prisoners are assigned to the state's 13 correctional facilities. The remaining incarcerated prisoners are assigned to parish facilities.
