The Indiana Derby is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds run over a distance of 1 + 1 ⁄ 16 miles on the dirt held annually in July at Horseshoe Indianapolis in Shelbyville, Indiana. It is the racetrack's signature event offering its current highest purse at $300,000.
Later in the year, the race was revived and rescheduled for the night of August 23 (the same day as the Indy 500), but back at the Fairgrounds track, as the planned improvements to convert the Fairgrounds oval to a horse racing facility were delayed. For the 2021 season, the Hoosier Hundred was replaced by the Sumar Classic at Terre Haute.
Horseshoe Indianapolis (formerly Indiana Grand Racing & Casino and Indiana Live!) is a casino with a horse racing track in Shelbyville, Indiana owned and operated by Caesars Entertainment. It is the closest casino to Indianapolis. It offers gaming, restaurants, a gift shop and entertainment.
