Dolphin is a free and open-source video game console emulator of GameCube and Wii [27] that runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S. [9] [10] It had its inaugural release in 2003 as freeware for Windows. Dolphin was the first GameCube emulator that could successfully run commercial games.

The client is implemented as a small library with a typical GUI which is incorporated with the emulator. GGPO was originally bundled with a client which enabled users to play supported games online with other players. A matchmaking system allowed players to request challenges from other users, while non-participants could spectate the match and chat. Once a challenge initiated, the match ran a ROM through its prepackaged emulator, FinalBurn Alpha.
