Berchem (Dutch pronunciation: ⓘ) is a southern district of the municipality and city of Antwerp in the Flemish Region of Belgium.Berchem is located along the old Grote Steenweg (Dutch for 'Big Paved Road') that has connected Brussels to Antwerp for several centuries; the town borders the districts of Deurne, Borgerhout, Wilrijk and Antwerp and the municipality of Mortsel.
As of 1 January 2024, the municipality had a population of 25,787 inhabitants. [2] The total area is 2.95 km 2 (1.14 sq mi), which gives a population density of 8,741/km 2 (22,640/sq mi). [2] The municipality is known for its calm and peaceful character. It is said that Berchem is a "village in the city".
