It is based on the 2007 book The Long Road Home: A Story of War and Family by Martha Raddatz, which tells the story of a U.S. Army unit during the first day of the siege of Sadr City (Arabic: مدينة الصدر, romanized: Madīna 'ṣ-Ṣadr) in 2004.
