Those Maui Jim's are counterfeit guys. Both pairs of mine were so bad regarding the lenses they were unwearable. I had a few friends try them on without mentioning any defect. As soon as they put them on they knew something wasn't right. Fortunately I got a refund for both pairs. Fish&Save didn't even want them back. Mine were the gray lenses.
Don't own Maui Jim's, but I do have a pair of Costa's with the 580G lenses in blue mirror. IMHO, they are the best sunglasses I have ever owned. I am actually thinking of getting another pair with a different lens color for lower light situations.-Connor
I had the Maui Jim frameless 'Sport' model in prescription. The top 1/3 of the lenses delaminated after a year. Not sure if it was face oil, or sunscreen. (I don't think the edges were properly sealed) Maui Jim said no warranty after 1 year on prescription lenses. Way too expensive for me to try again. I switched to Costa del Mar.
Maui every day. Also have a pair of Mueller hat bill clip on flip down, that has been up and down the West coast from Cali to Ak.with stops in between. Only ones i haven't lost besides the Maui Jims. Saw an inexpensive display in Menards that had Wrap around polarized lenses with a built in bifocal.Thinking of a pair to leave in the boat.
Maui J's = OG Grey for bright days. MJ's = Green ~ general days. Hobie = Bronze ~ overcast/low light. Ray Bans (Used to be dad's) stay in the car. Bomber = Bronze (supposedly from the Oakley Factory) for overcast/low light. no preferences to brand. as mentioned above, bronze/green for low light. grey for bright days. ALL POLARIZED!
Twist happens regardless. Having a super strong swivel somewhere in the jig chain can help. For bait, I just spin it out every now and then—or cut off the twisted end and retie. As a word of caution, I foolishly made a Maui Jim too-good-to-be-true purchase with PayPal, and they were of zero help when I filed a grievance for the fraudulent sale.
On Maui, a local diver working on the harbor, off for the weekend so we grabbed our speargear off to Hana day 1. We'd speared a few, enough to grill for lunch...until 3 orcas swam underneath us...OUT we go. Sunday to Flemings Beach an awesome beach on leeward end on Maui. Follow me, we're going deep for dinner. 30-40ft down MORAY EELS.
If we don't have to stop on a trolled up spot of Albacore or some of those pesky Bluefin on the way down, it will usually take all of a 1.5 of Tanqueray and at least two liters of tonic; but that's with Me and Joe in Stateroom E and Jim and Mark right across the way in Stateroom F. Lime usage varies with who's mixing the drinks.
