In SQL, the TRUNCATE TABLE statement is a data manipulation language (DML) [1] operation that deletes all rows of a table without causing a triggered action. The result of this operation quickly removes all data from a table , typically bypassing a number of integrity enforcing mechanisms.
A table is a sequence, optionally supplemented by named keys: digit["two"]="2". Several table functions like table.concat will only work with the numbered values and ignore named keys. The metatable offers a large, optional set of methods for altering table behavior. For example, you can define a table to be callable like a function.
Deleting all rows from a table can be very time-consuming. Some DBMS [clarification needed] offer a TRUNCATE TABLE command that works a lot quicker, as it only alters metadata and typically does not spend time enforcing constraints or firing triggers. DELETE only deletes the rows. For deleting a table entirely the DROP command can be used.
This help-page, Help:Lua debugging, explains issues of writing Lua script and debugging the source code, to remove errors or improve performance. Because Lua is a "semi-compiled" interpreted language, it does not prescreen for all common syntax errors, nor detect misspelled variables, which are only found at runtime when seeing the " Script ...
SQL was initially developed at IBM by Donald D. Chamberlin and Raymond F. Boyce after learning about the relational model from Edgar F. Codd [12] in the early 1970s. [13] This version, initially called SEQUEL (Structured English Query Language), was designed to manipulate and retrieve data stored in IBM's original quasirelational database management system, System R, which a group at IBM San ...
MySQL (/ ˌ m aɪ ˌ ɛ s ˌ k juː ˈ ɛ l /) [6] is an open-source relational database management system (RDBMS). [6] [7] Its name is a combination of "My", the name of co-founder Michael Widenius's daughter My, [1] and "SQL", the acronym for Structured Query Language.
BAC – an executable image for the RSTS/E system, created using the BASIC-PLUS COMPILE command [18] BPL – a Win32 PE file created with Delphi or C++Builder containing a package. Bundle – a Macintosh plugin created with Xcode or make which holds executable code, data files, and folders for that code.
However, delete and update operations are more problematic: deletes must leave an empty space, or the rows' offsets would change; the same goes for updates, as the length of the rows becomes shorter; if the update makes the row longer, the row is fragmented. To defragment rows and claim empty space, the OPTIMIZE TABLE command must be executed.
