Cheb Hasni (Arabic: الشاب حسني), born Hasni Chakroun (Arabic: حسني شقرون), (1 February 1968 – 29 September 1994), was an Algerian raï singer. Regarded as "The King of Sentimental Music","le rossignol du raï", [ 2 ] his contribution to music made him one of the most celebrated Algerian artist of the late 20th century. [ 2 ]
Hasni's fame and controversial songs led to him receiving death threats from Islamic fundamentalist extremists. On September 29, 1994, he was the first raï musician to be murdered , outside his parents' home in the Gambetta district of Oran , reportedly because he let girls kiss him on the cheek during a televised concert.
His first foray into music came at the age of two. Despite competition Nasro and Cheb Hasni became close friends. Hope of Nasro early career began to fade after the tragic murder of Cheb Hasni September 29, 1994, while Raï many artists emigrated to Europe or North America, he was one of the few to continue singing in his homeland. He began recording in his early teens under the name Cheb Khaled (شاب خالد, Arabic for "Young" Khaled, with "Cheb" as a common title for male raï singers). Khaled is one of the most important musicians in the history of Raï music in his native Algeria and is one the world's best-known Arab singers. [ 2 ]
1, 2, 3 Soleils (1, 2, 3 Suns) is a live album performed by Algerian artists Rachid Taha, Khaled and Faudel, widely hailed as the three masters of raï music. The concert, a unique event, took place in 1998 in Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in Paris, and the songs consisted of the most famous from all three artists plus a few Algerian classics.
Mimoun El Oujdi (Arabic: ميمون الوجدي) was a Moroccan singer raï genre of music. [1] Like other Maghrebi raï singers, he is habitually given the title "Cheb" (الشاب), meaning "young", and is usually known as Cheb Mimoun El Oujdi (الشاب ميمون الوجدي).
