George William Whitehurst (born March 12, 1925) is an American retired journalist and politician from Virginia who served in the United States House of Representatives from 1969 to 1987. He began his career as a professor at the Norfolk campus of the College of William and Mary , which became Old Dominion University in 1962.
Today he is credited with the industrialization of the manufacture of pottery, and is also remembered as a prominent opponent of slavery. Other giants of the pottery industry were Thomas Minton, William Moorcroft, and Josiah Spode. Many notable residents of Stoke-on-Trent have gone on to achieve recognition in their own field.

Dan Whitehurst (born 1948 in Los Banos, California), is a former California politician. Whitehurst started college at age 16 and law school at age 20. He practiced law briefly and then worked for a time at his father's funeral home before entering politics in 1975. [1] He was mayor of Fresno, California from 1977 to 1985.
Norton was born on March 12, 1871, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. [1] He was a son of the Rev. Franklin Burroughs Norton (1833–1895) [2] and Harriet Arvilla (née Dyer) Norton (1846–1921). [3] Through his mother, he was a direct descendant of Mary Dyer, the Quaker martyr, and of Roger Williams, founder of Rhode Island. [3]
