Dowagiac (/ d ə ˈ w ɑː dʒ æ k / də-WAH-jak) is a city in Cass County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 5,721 at the 2020 census . [ 4 ] It is part of the South Bend – Mishawaka , IN -MI, Metropolitan Statistical Area .
The city of Dowagiac borders the township to the southeast. According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 34.2 square miles (88.6 km 2 ), of which 32.0 square miles (82.8 km 2 ) is land and 2.3 square miles (5.9 km 2 ), or 6.62%, is water. [ 4 ]

Pokagon Township is located in western Cass County and is bordered to the west by Berrien County.The city of Dowagiac is on the northeast border of the township.. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 34.2 square miles (88.7 km 2), of which 34.0 square miles (88.1 km 2) is land and 0.23 square miles (0.6 km 2), or 0.67%, is water. LaGrange Township is located just northwest of the center of Cass County. It is bordered by the city of Dowagiac to the northwest. The village of Cassopolis, the Cass County seat, is in the southeast part of the township. The unincorporated community of LaGrange is in the center of the township, at the west end of LaGrange Lake.

Indian Lake is a lake in Cass County in southwestern Michigan in the United States. It is approximately 5 mi (8.0 km) west of Dowagiac. It is a spring-fed lake. [2] [3] The lake was named for Indians who once settled there. [4] There are approximately 220 homes on the lake, of which a third are on leased land.
The woods are located within the 580-acre (2.3 km 2) Fred Russ Forest Experiment Station, a Michigan State University (MSU) research forest and Cass County park. The Russ Forest and Park lie where the east–west Marcellus Highway crosses Dowagiac Creek, 8 miles (13 km) east of Dowagiac .
