Montesilvano (Italian pronunciation: [ˌmontesilˈvaːno]) is a city and comune of the province of Pescara, in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Abruzzo is often called Mare-Monti (Sea-Mountain) region. The name Montesilvano is apparently derived from the Latin which means "woody hill" ("woods" – silva).

It is the capital city of both the Abruzzo region and of the Province of L'Aquila, Italy. As of 2024 [update] , it has a population of 69,902 inhabitants. [ 5 ] Laid out within medieval walls on a hill in the wide valley of the Aterno river, it is surrounded by the Apennine Mountains , with the Gran Sasso d'Italia to the north-east.
It is dominated in the north by Mount Velino and west by Mount Salviano.
