The Orphanage is a 2019 Danish-Afghan drama film written and directed by Shahrbanoo Sadat. It was screened in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival . [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It is the second installment in a planned pentalogy based on the unpublished diaries of Anwar Hashimi , [ 3 ] who plays a supporting character in the film.

As the size of the Orphanage increased, it was shifted to Azimpur near Lalbagh in 1913. That year, Governor Lord Carmichael visited the orphanage. Nawab Salimullah paid all the expenses of the orphanage till his death. After his death in 1915, the orphanage fell into financial crisis. At that time, many people in Dhaka provided financial support.
