The area is known for its long winter sports tradition. As early as 1901, the Arlberg ski club was founded and two years later a first club competition was held. In 1904 the first general Arlberg race took place, 1928 the first of the famous Arlberg Kandahar races.

Owing to their location isolated from the rest of Austria, most Vorarlbergers speak a very distinct German dialect that other Austrians might have difficulty understanding, since the dialects in the rest of Austria form part of the Bavarian-Austrian language group, whereas the Vorarlberg dialect is part of the Alemannic dialect continuum.
Lech am Arlberg is a mountain village and an exclusive ski resort in the Bludenz district in the westernmost Austrian state of Vorarlberg, on the banks of the river Lech. In terms of both geography and history, Lech belongs to the Tannberg district. In touristic terms, however, it is part of the Arlberg region.
Goat Mountain is part of the Chisos Mountains where it is set in Big Bend National Park and the Chihuahuan Desert. The top of the mountain is composed of Burro Mesa Rhyolite (volcanic rock) which formed 29 million years ago during the Oligocene period.
Montafon (German: [mɔntaˈfoːn] ⓘ in local dialect: "Muntafu") is a 39 km long valley in the westernmost Austrian federal state of Vorarlberg. [1] It is traversed by the river Ill (Vorarlberg) and extends from the city of Bludenz and the Verwall Alps in the north, to the Silvretta and Rätikon mountain range in the south.
