Merdeka (Jawi: مرديک; Indonesian: [mərˈdɛka], Malay:) is a term in Indonesian and Malay which means "independent" or "free". It is derived from the Sanskrit maharddhika (महर्द्धिक) meaning "rich, prosperous, and powerful".
