Gallia County (/ ˈ ɡ æ l i ə /) is a county located in the U.S. state of Ohio.As of the 2020 census, the population was 29,220. [2] Its county seat and largest village is Gallipolis.
Emma Rowena Gatewood (née Caldwell; October 25, 1887 – June 4, 1973), [1] better known as Grandma Gatewood, was an American ultra-light hiking pioneer. After a difficult life as a farm wife, mother of eleven children, and survivor of domestic violence, she became famous as the first solo female thru-hiker of the 2,168-mile (3,489 km) Appalachian Trail (A.T.) in 1955 at the age of 67.
Gallipolis is located along the Ohio River in the Appalachia region. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.83 square miles (9.92 km 2), of which 3.60 square miles (9.32 km 2) is land and 0.23 square miles (0.60 km 2) is water. [18] Gallipolis is located in the unglaciated hills of southeastern Ohio.
