A festival dedicated to early Ohio's winter tradition of making maple syrup. This festival takes place the first two weekends in March. During the sugaring off days, at the farm, learn about the process of harvesting sap from trees, boiling the liquid down to syrup, making candies, sugar, and other sweet treats.
The celebration of maple syrup begins on Tappin' Sunday, which occurs on the second Sunday in March. This includes the tapping of all the maple trees on Chardon Square to make syrup for the festival. The sap collected is then taken to the Chardon Square sugar house where it is turned into maple syrup stirs for customers to enjoy.
Gideon Hart and family moved from Connecticut to Ohio in 1816 to take advantage of the land tract of 380 acres. The original tract went from the current land east as far as the current Hoover Reservoir. Hart was a prominent man who built multiple sawmills (due to fire destruction), orchards, farming and a sugar maple stand.
