This is a list of original Roman Catholic hymns. The list does not contain hymns originating from other Christian traditions despite occasional usage in Roman Catholic churches. The list has hymns in Latin and English.

Some of the most notable include the following (in chronological order): Ockeghem: Requiem, the earliest to survive, written in the mid-to-late 15th century; Morales: Two notable requiems: Officium defunctorum (ca. 1526–28) and Missa pro defunctis (1544).
