Look for the small crossed swords bottom right corner of the interface. Like others other have said it's a single combat area, the cannon helps with faster kills and XP as well as aggroing monsters so it's more AFK. Konar told me to kill spectres in the cave and I set my cannon down but it's only attacking one at a time.
