Newcastle Civic Centre is a municipal building in the Haymarket area of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. [1] Designed by George Kenyon , [ 2 ] the centre was built for Newcastle City Council in 1967 and formally opened by King Olav V of Norway on 14 November 1968. [ 3 ]

Newcastle City Council is the local authority for the city of Newcastle upon Tyne in the ceremonial county of Tyne and Wear in North East England. Newcastle has had a council from medieval times, which has been reformed on numerous occasions. Since 1974 the council has been a metropolitan borough council.
Haymarket is an area in the north of central Newcastle upon Tyne. The area has several transport hubs including Eldon Square bus station, Haymarket bus station and Haymarket Metro station. Haymarket features the facades of Newcastle Civic Centre, Newcastle University and Northumbria University.
Today, the building is home to the North York Community Council and a number of local municipal departments and services. Opposite the Civic Centre is the North York Central Library branch of the Toronto Public Library. The Civic Centre is served by the Toronto Transit Commission's North York Centre subway station (opened in 1987).
