Preceded in Canton by the Canton Chinks, the "Canton Citizens" came into existence during the 1952 season. On June 7, 1952, the Vincennes Velvets of the Class D level Mississippi–Ohio Valley League moved to Canton with a 15–15 record. The Canton Chinks had preceded the Canton Citizens decades earlier, playing from 1908 to 1913. [1]
A bowling league is a competitive event in which teams bowl against each other over the course of a season. Most bowling leagues consist of four-player teams that meet up once a week or once every other week, usually at the same day and time. Teams of three or five players are also common. The last remaining bastion of the Suburban League started joining these other leagues, and finally folded after the 1974–1975 school year. As of the end of the 2007–08 school year, the past and present schools of the CSL have won 233 state titles in various IHSA sports and activities. They have finished in second place 261 times.
In 1935, Lyons Township (LaGrange) joined the league, and the following year West Chicago dropped out. The league membership stayed stable until 1951, when Arlington joined the league. When it withdrew from the conference in 1966, Proviso West took its place. [1] In 1972, charter member Maine East (which began as Maine) left the league.
