The Joyce Theatre Foundation is a leading presenter of dance in New York City and nationally. It is runs, in part, from the Joyce Theater , a 472-seat dance performance venue located in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City .
The theater showed films from its opening in 1942 until 1978. Its longtime manager, Ben Barenholtz , invented midnight movie programming for the theater. Following a full renovation, the building reopened in 1982 as a 472-seat dance theater operated by the Joyce Theatre Foundation .
The Sarasota Ballet has been invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., with the Suzanne Farrell Ballet [1] and Ballet Across America III, [2] at Fall for Dance at the New York City Center, [3] the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival [4] [5] and the Joyce Theater.
The newly named Joyce SoHo housed offices, a rehearsal studio on the third floor, and a 74-seat theater on the first. [3] [12] In 2012, the Joyce received, and accepted, an unsolicited $27.25 million offer for 155 Mercer from Thor Equities.
The first completed theater was created with the help of sculptor John Seward Johnson II of the Johnson & Johnson family and his wife Joyce. In honor of its benefactors, it was named the Joyce and Seward Johnson Theater. It is currently one of the largest theaters off-off-Broadway. Renovation of the building was finally completed in 2001.
Larry Keigwin was one of the 2011 Society of Directors and Choreographers' Joe A. Callaway Award Recipients, which "recognizes excellence in the craft of directing and choreography during the New York City theatre season." [10] He was awarded the American Dance Festival's Doris Duke Award for New Work in 2004, 2006, 2008. [11]

The James Earl Jones Theatre, originally the Cort Theatre, is a Broadway theater at 138 West 48th Street, between Seventh Avenue and Sixth Avenue, in the Theater District of Midtown Manhattan in New York City, United States. It was built in 1912 and designed by architect Thomas W. Lamb for impresario John Cort.
