TCHS was initially anticipated to open to students on August 10, 2021, but the St. Johns County school board voted to delay the start of the county's 2021-22 school year by 6 days, in part to give a cushion for more time to complete construction projects at TCHS and Pine Island Academy, a new Kindergarten through eighth grade school in the county.
In 1935 the band started up with just eight instruments being used by 25 members. Hot lunch was introduced in 1938. In 1940 the athletic fields were purchased for $1000 and new buses would take athletes around to games. The school underwent much construction to accommodate the increasing number of students.
When the school first opened, classes were held in a local Episcopal church. In 1971 Sea Island Academy merged with Sea Island Baptist School, founded in 1966 by the First Baptist Church of John's Island. [3] The school was renamed Charleston Collegiate School in 2002, [4] and presently occupies a 30-acre (120,000 m 2) campus, built in 1972. [1]
