Kion (voiced by Max Charles [11]) is a lion who is Simba and Nala's son, Kiara's younger brother, Rani's mate, Mufasa, Sarabi and Sarafina's grandson, Scar's great-nephew and Baliyo and Kovu's brother-in-law. A short time after Kiara's first encounter with Kovu, Kion is born as the second-born child of Simba and Nala.

A battle ensues between Simba and his allies and the hyenas. Scar attempts to escape, but is cornered by Simba at a ledge near the top of Pride Rock. Scar begs for mercy and attempts to deceive Simba by blaming his actions on the hyenas. Simba spares Scar's life but orders him to leave the Pride Lands forever; Scar refuses and attacks Simba.
The song is performed as a musical number by Scar, who covets his brother Mufasa's position as king of the Pride Lands. Scar plans to murder both Mufasa and his son, Simba, so he can usurp the throne. He sings to an army of spotted hyenas, promising to end their hunger in return for their assistance.
After rescuing Simba, Mufasa is swept into the stampede and struggles to escape. Reaching for Scar's help at the gorge's edge, Mufasa is betrayed as Scar claws his paws and pushes him to his death. [5] [6] [4] [7] Scar manipulates Simba into believing he is responsible for Mufasa's death, [8] prompting the guilt-ridden cub to flee the Pride Lands.
Scar calls for Sarabi and demands to know why the lionesses are not hunting. Sarabi stands up to him about the lack of anything to hunt, angrily comparing him to Mufasa, and Scar strikes his sister-in-law, saying he's ten times the king Mufasa was. Enraged, Simba reveals himself. Scar forces a confession of murder from Simba and corners him.
