Francesca Massey (born 1982) is the former Organist and Director of Music at Rochester Cathedral, a position she held from September 2019 [1] to August 2022, when she was succeeded by Adrian Bawtree. [2] Previously she was Sub-Organist at Durham Cathedral from 2011.
In April 2014, Bawtree was appointed Assistant Sub-Organist of Rochester Cathedral, with responsibility for playing services at weekends and major festivals. Dakers was born on 24 February 1924 in Rochester, Kent. [2] He studied organ under Harold Aubie Bennett at Rochester Cathedral and Edward Bairstow at York Minster. [3] He graduated Mus.Bac. at Durham University in 1951.
His arrival at Rochester coincided with the opportunity to redesign and completely rebuild the cathedral organ. In consultation with the organ builders, J. W. Walker & Sons Ltd, Ashfield rejected much of the piecemeal work that had gone before producing, in 1960, an instrument with a traditional feel but well-suited to the needs of the cathedral.
