The street next to its former site is still called "Church Road", and the graveyard is extant, known as the "Old Churchyard". The church was severely damaged during WW2, as a German bomber hit it directly on the night of 4 November 1940, causing the roof to collapse.

The name is historically derived from Branca's Leigh. The village is located 8 miles (13 km) east of Royal Tunbridge Wells, and 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Paddock Wood, and includes the neighbouring village of Matfield. Brenchley & Matfield CoE primary school is located in Brenchley.
The junction was at Paddock Wood and followed the Medway Valley down to the county town of Maidstone that had been by-passed by the new main line. Twelve years later, on 18 June 1856 the extension of the line further down the Medway Valley was opened, to join the North Kent Line at Strood (which had opened in 1847).
