The Koenigsegg TFG is an inline-3 engine. The TFG stands for "Tiny Friendly Giant." It is a Freevalve (camless piston engine), thus it does not have a camshaft.Instead it uses electro-hydraulic-pneumatic actuators that allow it to open each valve (both intake and exhaust) independently to maximise performance and minimise fuel consumption depending on driving conditions.
In April 2016, the Chinese car manufacturer Qoros presented a concept car incorporating Freevalve technology. [20] In March 2020, Koenigsegg Automotive AB announced its first four-seater car, the Gemera, which is powered by a sequentially turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-three engine in conjunction with three electric motors. Free-piston engine used as a gas generator to drive a turbine. A free-piston engine is a linear, 'crankless' internal combustion engine, in which the piston motion is not controlled by a crankshaft but determined by the interaction of forces from the combustion chamber gases, a rebound device (e.g., a piston in a closed cylinder) and a load device (e.g. a gas compressor or a linear alternator).
Circa-1960 Saab two-stroke engine 2010 Suzuki K10B engine. Among the first cars to use a straight-three engine is the 1953–1955 DKW F91, powered by a 900 cc (55 cu in) two-stroke engine, although this was predated by the 3 cylinder 15hp Rolls Royce produced in 1905 and a number of other cars of this era also used 3 cylinder engines.
In 2020, Koenigsegg showed the idea again. [75] [76] [77] 2017: The 2019 Infiniti QX50 is available with a turbocharged Variable compression ratio engine. [78] 2017: Achates Power shows a maximum brake thermal efficiency of 55 percent in a reciprocating engine. [79] 2020: Maserati introduces pre-chamber ignition in its commercially available ...
