The town of Shelbyville was established in October 1792 at the first meeting of the Shelby County Court after local landowner William Shannon agreed to surrender 50 acres (20 ha) of his property to the community and provide 1 free acre for public buildings. [10]

The Bird's Nest is a historic residence built c.1850 in Shelby County, Kentucky, about 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Cropper, Kentucky.
