Massachusetts Route 102 (MA 102) is a 12.33-mile-long (19.84 km) west–east state highway in western Massachusetts.Its western terminus is at the New York border where it connects to New York State Route 22 (NY 22) in Canaan, New York, and its eastern terminus is at the intersection U.S. Route 20 (US 20) and the Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate 90) exit 10 in Lee.
[1] [2] The first state highway in Massachusetts was a 5305.17-foot (1617.02 m) section of Fitchburg Road (now Main Street, part of Route 119) in Ashby. The MHC laid it out as a state highway on August 15, 1894 from a point west of South Road to a point west of Route 31 .
The newly established Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MASSDOT) assumed operations from the existing conglomeration of state transportation agencies on November 1, 2009. This change included: Creating the Highway Division from the former Massachusetts Turnpike Authority and Massachusetts Highway Department (MassHighway).
Route 21 is a 13.73-mile-long (22.10 km) south–north state highway in Massachusetts that runs between U.S. Route 20 (US 20) and Route 141 in Springfield and Route 9 in Belchertown. Along the way it intersects several major highways including Interstate 90 (I-90) in Ludlow and US 202 and Route 181 in Belchertown.
Route 9 begins in the western Massachusetts city of Pittsfield, at U.S. Route 20.After separating from US-20, it has a brief (.2 mile) concurrency with U.S. Route 7 through the center of that city, then continues east, passing through the towns of Dalton and Windsor, wherein the route reaches its highest point at 2033 ft, in Berkshire County.
