First edition (publ. Michael Joseph) Firefox Down is a 1983 novel by author Craig Thomas.It is a sequel to his novel Firefox.Craig Thomas dedicated the first edition of the novel to actor/director/producer Clint Eastwood, who starred as Mitchell Gant in the film adaptation of the first novel, stating, "For Clint Eastwood — pilot of the Firefox".
In Firefox Down, the immediate sequel to Firefox, Gant realizes that he has not survived his dogfight with the second MiG-31 unscathed. The novel Firefox Down is a continuation of the story of Firefox, beginning at the moment at which the previous book had concluded. Firefox is a 1982 American action techno-thriller film produced, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood.It is based upon the 1977 novel of the same name by Craig Thomas.. The film was set in Russia, but Cold War considerations had Eastwood's and Fritz Manes's Malpaso Company using Vienna and other locations in Austria to double for many of the Eurasian story locations.
Winter Hawk makes allusions to other Craig Thomas novels, mostly Firefox and Firefox Down which introduces the characters of Mitchell Gant and Priabin, and develops the basis for Priabin's vendetta against the American. Thomas' recurring British characters — Kenneth Aubrey, Peter Shelley, Patrick Hyde, Giles Pyott — do not appear in the story.
In the 1983 novel Firefox Down by Craig Thomas, captured American pilot Mitchell Gant is imprisoned in a KGB psychiatric clinic "associated with the Serbsky Institute," where he is drugged and coerced into revealing the location of the Firefox aircraft, which he has stolen and flown out of Russia. Not to mention that given all the work put into stealing Firefox it is highly unlikely the Americans would have overlooked such an important detail. Gant mentions infrared detection beams coming from the Russian Cruiser, this is impossible. -This detail is ture, infrared is an entierly passive means of tracking a target.
