The Iron Mountain was initially established to deliver iron ore from Iron Mountain to St. Louis, Missouri. Once owned by Henry Gudon Marquand and his brother, Frederick Marquand. They were forced out through Jay Gould's railroad monopoly. [1] [2] In 1883 the railway was acquired by Jay Gould, becoming part of a 9,547-mile (15,364 km) system.
Iron Mountain Mine, also known as the Richmond Mine at Iron Mountain, is a mine near Redding in Northern California, US. Geologically classified as a "massive sulfide ore deposit", the site was mined for iron , silver , gold , copper , zinc , quartz , and pyrite intermittently from the 1860s until 1963.
The Iron Mountain mine shut down in 1921 and an aerial tramway was built from the Hornet Mine directly to the Southern Pacific Railroad. With the closing of the last independent mine, common carrier status was abandoned on 5 February 1927 though limited service may have continued as late as 1929. The remaining line was salvaged by the early 1930s.
The film was briefly in pre-production in the winter of 2000, with plans to film at Iron Mountain, then shuttered but briefly under new ownership. With a late start and a short winter, the project was canceled, quickly picked up in turn-around by Iris Entertainment producers Geof Miller and Rory Veal.
