Urgent need but not pharmacy fault (or minor mess up): ask the patient what the other Walgreens nearby convenient for them are and call them manually, offer to transfer the rx to those. Alternatively, if urgent may consider calling a competitor and asking if there’s one that would be more likely to have/more convenient.
I worked at walgreens pharmacy, and they had a computer tool which quickly and easily checks the stock of all other Walgreens stores within the state. Martins has a similar tool. Fucking Kroger can do this. CVS MUST have such a basic, useful tool. It makes no sense not to.
Then call ins, RGM, returns, etc. I scan in pharmacy’s order when it comes, I help them with their claims especially the weekly ABC return on Wednesday. I’m trying to fit front end and pharmacy outdates in but I’m still getting a feel for thing, the CSAs are generally good with FE outdates. I help with resets.
Don't forget to ask RPH about immunization supplies if they need any. There is an expense list for pharmacy on storenet somewhere. In busier stores it isn't practical to keep a tally sheet of used goods. I just glimpse real quick at the inventory at the warehouse and order enough to last a week.
Is it worth it to go from shift lead to inventory specialist? The selling points my sm mentioned to me were better hours (mid shift), more experience in how the store runs/how the company runs, being able to do resets and scan outs/grading bays (red carts).
Pay is the same. If you're looking to make a career out of Walgreens then take the job, find a good IS, and have them mentor you. If you don't have career goals with the company avoid like the plague. It's the Left Tackle position of Walgreens. If you're good at it nobody cares and you'll get no recognition because the store will just work.
We were also told we weren’t allowed to make excess inventory claims? Which I only found out a month ago wasn’t true when I said fuck it and submitted a claim and hoped for the best. Our pharmacy has tons of overstock in the most random stuff, from literally a 5 foot pile of pedialyte (I don’t even know) to 84 boxes of one birth control.

Currently completing E-learning for new inventory system that is going to replace SIMS and IC+. I’m really hoping this helps keep more pharmacies organized and patients happy.
Definitely not opposed to waiting and learning, but if you have 500 hours of pharmacy tech experience you can take the PTCB exam. I might just do that and get the study guides / reading material (if i get the job) and use this as the required “hands on” learning. Unless they don’t let you do anything in the pharmacy until you’re certified.
